A group of ten sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's gender.
Their lawsuit states that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
