Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
